World Series vs NBA Opening Night

Tonight was a great sports night, especially for the people in Cleveland. The Cleveland Cavaliers received their Championship rings as they opened up the NBA season and the Cleveland Indians are playing in the World Series. Combine that with the fact that the Kevin Durant and the new look Golden State Warriors; game will start midway through the World Series makes this a great night for sports fans.

The question I have for sports fans everywhere is which one means the most to you, NBA opening night or the World Series? I have to be honest with you, I’m a fan of both sports but I caught myself watching more basketball and only switching over to the baseball game during commercials.

It’s actually pretty sad because how much does game number one of the NBA season really matter? I mean sure every game matters and it’s always good to start the season off on the right foot but losing the first of 82 games really doesn’t matter right now.

The same can’t be said about the World Series. Every game is a big game and both teams have an opportunity to make history for their respective cities. If Cleveland wins it would be awesome for the city to have two championship teams in one season, especially since they went 53 years before any major sports team won one. The stakes are even higher for the Chicago Cubs, even though they appeared in the World Series in 1945; their last World Series win was in 1908 and legend has it that the Cubs were cursed in 1945 by Billy Sianis; the curse is referred to as the Curse of the Billy Goat.

Having said all that, for some reason I still cared more about watching a pointless NBA game instead of a World Series baseball game that means so much to their respective cities and the game of baseball in general.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Did you watch both games? Were you only concerned with the NBA games or were you all in on the World Series?
