What Is Wrong With Major League Baseball?

What in the world is going on with major league baseball? Ratings aren’t the best, attendance isn’t the best and kids are losing interest in America’s Pastime. This is bothersome to me because I was a baseball player myself and I really love the game. It’s strange to me that so many people just don’t care what’s going on with major league baseball.

Baseball has a problem and I just can’t put my finger on what it is. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the so called MLB superstars don’t demand the same respect or attention as the superstars in other sports. If we think about it, who are the biggest names in the major leagues?

Once you go beyond Mike Trout or Bryce Harper, you can’t help but think about all the guys that were caught up in the steroid era. It seems to me as if the guys like Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, Roger Clements and even A-Rod are still the biggest names in baseball. The only person I can think of off the top of my head; in another sport, that is still a big deal in his sport would have to be Michael Jordan. I think we can all agree that Michael Jordan is in a league of his own and no one can be compared to him.

As far as baseball, what can be done to bring the sport back to prominence? Does it start with the kids? Is it a lost cause to think that the players that are currently in the majors  can’t do it and we need to focus on the kids in the Little League World Series or is there enough star power currently in the major leagues to make a case that baseball can regain the popularity that it once had?
